Industrial Mixers: How to Choose a Batch Mixer That Fits Your Needs
Have you ever struggled with choosing the right mixer? PerMix is here to help you approach this issue and what questions you should ask to make the right mixer choice.
It is very important to know the material properties of the powder you are mixing. Is it sticky/lumpy or free-flowing? If it is lumpy, you can use grinders to eliminate the formation of lumps. In the case of free-flowing powder, there is no major problem.
The next step is to determine whether or not liquid will be part of the process? If so, the mixer must be selected so that it has adequate headspace above the material bed to allow for efficient liquid addition.
Does your mixing process require additional processes such as shearing, cooling, reaction or heating? Shearing may be required when the viscosity of the product is to be eliminated, while heating/cooling is required when the desired product has a lower/higher temperature and vice versa.
Is there any space limitation in the installation location? If space is an issue in terms of footprint, vertical mixers can be selected, but in this case the required room height is greater. Similarly, when the room height is limited, a horizontal mixer can be selected.
Does your product have any specific standards requirements? According to the requirements, different standards are available, such as CIP (Cleaning In Place) and SIP (Sterilization In Place). These are typically used for mixing food ingredients and in the pharmaceutical industry.
