Basket Centrifuges
Centrifuges are machines used to separate solids from liquids, liquids from other liquids, or solids from (heavier) and lighter liquids.
Centrifuges can be divided into two main types:
- sedimentation centrifuges, which require a difference in the density of the phases to be separated (solid-liquid or liquid-liquid
- filter centrifuges in which the solid phase is retained and separated by means of a filter medium (filter fabric bag) and the liquid flows away freely.
In both types of centrifuges, the centrifuged material is subjected to a centrifugal force acting perpendicularly to the rotational movement (basket, drum, cylinder or bowl). The achieved G-force depends on the rotational speed of the centrifuge and the diameter of the rotating element. The greater the developed centrifugal force G, the smaller the difference in phase density is necessary to be able to centrifuge the product. The second very important element influencing centrifugation is the centrifugation time. The longer it is, the better the centrifuge can centrifuge the product. We can also divide centrifuges by type. There are, for example: - basket centrifuges
- decanting
- plate
- with cylindrical bowl vertical
- pulsating
- horizontal axis centrifuges with scraper knife
- pulsating, peeler type (with a horizontal axis with a scraping knife, so-called peeling). Centrifuges can operate in batch mode, continuous mode or in an automated cycle.
Centrifuges are devices widely used in many industries such as: chemical industry, pharmaceutical industry, food industry, textile industry, metal industry, pharmaceutical industry, plastics industry and many others.
Centrifuges are often used instead of various types of filters, e.g. instead of filter presses, rotary drum filters, pressure layer filters, Nutsche filters. As a rule, the advantage of centrifuges over filters is faster separation of the desired phases, continuous operation or in an automated cycle, ease of operation, ease of cleaning, and the fact that centrifuges usually take up less space for installation than filters.
One of the most widely used centrifuges in the industry are basket (drum) centrifuges. Rousselet Robatel, represented in Poland by Fiprocess Sp. zoo, has been producing them since around the middle of the 19th century in France. Rousselet Robatel's experience in this area amounts to over 150 L. During this time, the company has supplied over 20,000 machines and entire rotating lines around the world. These centrifuges are manufactured in 100% in France and meet all EU standards, and the company is faithful to traditions and has not moved the production of machines to China or India, for example, which is why these centrifuges meet the most stringent production standards. Rousselet Robatel produces a very wide range of different subtypes, they can have many different options such as: CiP (clean in place) systems, SIP (steam in place) systems, cake washing systems, blow back systems. Production from many construction materials, such as AISI 316Ti, 904L steels, many types of Hastelloy alloy steels and various other materials such as monel, as well as anti-corrosion coatings Halar, Rilsan and many others. Models are also available in explosion-proof versions ATEX, in gas-tight versions, for the pharmaceutical industry cGMP and many others.
Choosing the right centrifuge for your process is not obvious and you should not do it yourself because the risk of making a mistake and making the wrong choice is huge. Fiprocess Sp. z o. o. will help you choose the right machine for your needs, depending on the process. In addition, centrifuges are dangerous machines due to the high G forces that can be achieved, so for safety reasons, it is advisable to focus on the quality and reliability of the machine and not just its price. Each centrifuge must be checked for the balance of the rotating element (basket, drum, bowl), vibrations and many other elements and safeguards. Of course, Rousselet Robatel always performs a complete set of necessary tests confirmed by e.g. the FAT protocol before sending the machine, and then also SAT after installation.
When it comes to selecting a machine, Rousselet Robatel has many models of laboratory and pilot centrifuges in France. The manufacturer, of course, has many years of experience, so we can match the right machine to your centrifugation process. Rousselet Robatel also produces unique and exceptional centrifugal liquid-liquid extractors or entire batteries of them. They also enable the extraction of liquid that is dissolved in another liquid and centrifugal liquid chromatographs, which even enable the separation of a single product particle. It is also possible to rent a machine for tests, factory trials or for the time when a new machine will be manufactured. Rousselet Robatel centrifuges are proven devices and solutions that, with proper maintenance, can serve for many decades, e.g. 30 years. The company has all the necessary parts for servicing centrifuges in stock and uses only the best components, such as bearings or electrical parts, e.g. Siemens. Our company Fiprocess Sp. z o. o. represents Rousselet Robatel in Poland. We invite you to familiarize yourself with different types of centrifuges for different applications on the website www.fiprocess.pl, where you will find presentations of basket centrifuges, videos, diagrams and photos from various implementations.
